It's rated by USA Today and other publications as one of the best baseball parks in the United States. Even though Fifth-Third Field is home to the Triple-A International League Toledo Mud Hens, it is a major league facility. But a lot goes into to keeping the field in tip-top shape. Though the Hens' grounds crew starts their day at sunrise and finish late, for Jake Tyler and his crew the hours and work are well worth it. When you look at the field, there is no wonder it rates as one of the best in the nation. Tyler and his crew are always busy cutting the infield and outfield grass. The crew is awaiting the team's arrival from an eight-game road trip through Columbus, Indianapolis and Louisville. Toledo's back in town for three games Thursday-Saturday against the Clippers. The grounds crew works around the clock in the summertime, and has to make sure everything is ready to go by game time, but at times there are major challenges. The turf is designed to take 12 inches of rain per hour, and it has a state of the art drainage system.
